PRINCIPAL NEWS

Dear Families,

The end of term is fast approaching after another successful ten weeks of learning at TPS. I do hope you have some restful activities planned for the break so that children return energised and ready for another action-packed term when school resumes on Monday 15 October.

The TPS team is certainly looking forward to the in-school student workshops scheduled in the first week of Term 4 and the accompanying TPSA Parent Information Evening on Thursday 18 October, all delivered by Plastic Pollution Solutions in partnership with Plastic Wise Taroona. The Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival is also scheduled for our first week back, and will be held at Clarence Pool on Thursday 18 October using the same full-participation format as per the last two years. Please see the weekly calendar for full details on Term 4 events.

Staffing Updates

Mrs Gilmour is currently on LSL. Mrs Heather Fallon is teaching 5-6GM until the end of the week.

Mrs Clark will be taking four weeks LSL at the start of Term 4. Mr Andrew Watchorn (Monday) and Mr John Murray (Tuesday – Friday) will be responsible for 5-6C during this period.

Mrs Janelle Stowe will continue to deliver our K-6 Music Program until the end of the school year and Mrs Lynne Sattler will continue to teach 1-2N one day per week (changing to a full day on Wednesdays) to enable Mrs Nuttall to complete Advanced Skills Teacher responsibilities.

2019 Classes

Planning is well underway, with fourteen classes expected to the start the new school year. Parents / carers are asked to advise the office ASAP if circumstances have changed and children are not returning to TPS in 2019.

Letters of offer for Kindergarten 2019, with accompanying information regarding our Term 4 Pre-Kinder sessions, are being sent this week to all eligible and/or in-area families. TPS Families who have a child who is eligible for Kindergarten in 2019 and who haven’t received a letter of offer are asked to contact the office ASAP to complete the enrolment process.

Out of Area Applications for 2019 are being considered in accordance with the Secretary’s Instructions No 2 for Enrolment from Outside Intake Area, with a response to be sent to all applicants by the end of Week 2 Term 4.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

PAST STUDENT – Meg Smith

I am now in Grade 5 at Jakarta Intercultural School in Indonesia. My fifth grade class went to a wonderful camp last week. We learnt traditional Indonesian practices like how to plant rice, plough fields with buffalo and weave fabric. But my favourite thing we did was to play soccer with the local kids. I donated a big box of old Taroona Primary School shirts that Mrs Broadbent had given us. Thank you so much, the kids were very happy to receive them!

Taster Day

TPSA NEWS

Dear TPS parents and staff

As another busy term comes to an end, I wanted to provide you with a quick update of Association activities from the past few weeks and thank you for your support during Term 3.

Term 3 started with our launch of Qkr, our new electronic ordering and payment system for parents. The move to Qkr improves the transparency and timeliness of all our financial transactions, reduces the manual workload for many of our volunteers and provides convenience for parents.

All our Friday Canteen customers now use Qkr for ordering and payment, and over 60% of our parents used Qkr to buy their Quiz Night tickets! Thanks for your support of this new initiative this term, I hope you have found it convenient! Special thanks to our TPS Office staff who helped answer parent questions and trouble-shoot a small number of issues in the early weeks of implementation.

Qkr has helped our Friday Canteen volunteers so much that they are super keen to offer you and your children more choice with an expanded menu! If sushi has never been popular you might like to try a sandwich or scroll from Banjo’s Sandy Bay. On trial in Term 4, give Qkr and the new menu items a try!

Our ‘Your Hero’ Quiz Night held on Saturday 15 September, was well attended by parents, staff and community and together we raised approx. $4,500! We had two best dressed awards given to ‘Jack Sparrow’ (Chris Lloyd-Parker) and Maleficent (Jo Moore).

In a tight budget year for the School, the Association has agreed to allocate funds raised from the Quiz Night and our sell-out Cake Stall at the Soccer BBQ (raised $450) on the previous weekend, to purchase an information technology storage and charging rack and cover the costs of staff salaries for professional learning about incorporating outdoor nature play in teaching and learning.

As a part of our TASSO grant, the Association is facilitating a series of student workshops and a parent session by Plastic Pollution Solutions (PPS), which supports our School and local community interest in sustainability. We know the children are fighting their ‘war on waste’ in various ways in their classrooms and so we feel this a great way to support further learning for them and us! Come along to see the movie, Bag It, and a discussion with Anthony Hill from PPS, on Thursday 18 Oct 2018, from 6.30pm.

Thanks from me to all our volunteers and TPS staff who have supported us in this particularly busy term!

Have a restful and safe break.

Chair, TPSA
